What is Therapy?
Mental health issues impact people from all walks of life. As people of faith, we are not exempt from emotional pain. The fact is that stressors of life impact everyone, whether it be a minor situational stressor, grief and loss, a relationship issue and/or traumatic experience/s. In fact, I don’t know one person who wouldn’t benefit from therapy at some point in their lives. But the reality is that many people are suffering alone. The good news is that you do not have to manage what you are experiencing alone. I believe that along with your faith and biblical principles, therapy can help you manage what you are facing and bring the emotional healing that you have desired for your life.
If you are ready, willing and committed to begin the process of therapy, I would love to set up a consultation with you to determine if we are a good fit for a therapeutic relationship.
My Approach
My approach integrates traditional psychotherapy modalities and biblical principles to help you cope and heal from emotional pain. The goal within treatment is to bring to light the inaccurate messages that have been deeply rooted within the soil of your heart based on painful or traumatic experiences. Additionally, the goal is to replant those inaccurate messages with true and accurate thoughts and beliefs of self, others, the world and even God. Committing to this process can result in healing that is needed for the garden of your heart to grow and flourish. It can allow you to move forward in the purpose and destiny you were made for, regardless of whether situations or people in your life change.
I use the following therapeutic modalities: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior therapy and Family systems. Cognitive Behavioral therapy is designed to assist individuals with uncovering their core beliefs and identify how painful experiences and faulty beliefs about self and others have resulted in repeated and destructive behaviors. It is understood that thoughts influence emotions, emotions influence behaviors and behaviors can influence negative thoughts about self, others, the world and their view of God. The goal is to identify cognitive distortions and irrational thoughts that perpetuate unwanted emotions and behaviors.Additionally, various behavioral tools are taught to manage the intensity of emotions.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy understands that behaviors, emotions and thoughts are linked to problems in life and contribute to emotions of distress and suffering. Dialectical Behavior Therapy is known to help individuals who experience challenges with managing big emotions. It is also driven by skills, including mindfulness skills, interpersonal effectiveness skills, emotion regulation skills and distress tolerance skills. Family Systems is focused on identifying dysfunctional family patterns and bringing families into cohesion. The goal of family systems is to assist families with addressing issues, such as triangulation, enmeshment and/or disengagement, and help each member develop individuation (which is developing a sense of independent self, while also maintaining healthy communication and boundaries with family members).
Telehealth
At this time, I am available for telehealth appointments only. Telehealth enables me to meet with clients who live throughout the state of California. Although this might seem like a barrier, many clients find that this helps them in several ways. Some clients are able to schedule their sessions at their work breaks, without worrying about travel time. Clients who have to schedule in the early mornings or late evenings also find it more convenient to schedule their sessions in the comfort of their own homes. Additionally, clients find that telehealth is helpful when they are out of town or on a business trip, as they are more than likely to keep their appointment date and time.
Fees
Our therapy sessions are 53 minutes at $155.
I do offer an income-based sliding scale on a case-by-case basis. Please inquire to see if you qualify.
